Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

Ladies and gents,

Quick one.
About colour codes and temperatures.

Are there really only 2x temperature settings 190 and 210?!

I've bought a filament which barely extruding and extruder makes skipping clicks on 190 but if I do 210 it's too soft and comes out wobbly on overhangs and creates blobs on straight walls.

I've fond a way to compensate, actually 2x ways but that's quite crude way to do it.
1. Heat up incoming filament. I took 2x silica gel packs, thrown them into the microwave for 20sec to heat them up. Then I "sandwiched" bowden tube where it starts on top of the printer with those warm silica gel packets and quick release zip tie. Set temperature to 190 and it's coming out nice and smooth.
But I ditched this method because you need to swap those silica gel packs every 10-15mins and it's not consistent in temperature release.
2. Cool filament. (I have my filament hooked to one side of the printer, outside of the case) I put my small desk fan at the front of the filament spool to cool it down a bit. Now it's cool enough to be heated up with 210 degrees.

Again, it's a crude workaround so would love to find one colour code which goes into the 200 mark.

Thanks in advance if there is a colour code matching 210, if not then I hope you'll find this tip useful.
(Btw, if you put the heater at the front of the spool and up it up by 20-30 degree you could do ABS... Ok, heated bed is the next story... Just a thought...)

Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

you can always use ThreeDubbler to decode the gcode file and then edit the file to set a manual temp.

look for "M104 S0 ; set temperature" in the gcode file.
just remember the printer wont go over ~235c
and you lose both time and % markers during your print

I also just finished up a 3W encoder/decoder (written in C# - code borrowed from decompiled XYZWare).  I've attached the source (ThreeDubber_Src.zip) and the ready-to-run executable (ThreeDubber_Exe.zip).

Virus scan of compiled executable: https://virusscan.jotti.org/en-US/files … ve7dj9ykr7

The application can convert between gcode and 3w.  Only works with the Davinci Jr.

Pretty much the same code as charleshyman, just with a UI thrown in for the non-developers.

Just to check if I set the temp using M104 S0 and change to M104 S205 this will override the printer, I'm assuming it says M104 S0 in the Gcode and is preceded with a ";" then it gets ignored because the temp is set by the printer reading the NFC information?

Has anyone tried this out?

Cheers

Yep, it works.
You need to uncoment that line by removing ; at the front and change 0 to desired temperature.
(to print @ 200 degrees line will say M104 S200)

Also as said before you'll not be able to see remaining time or percentage. It'll say from the very begining that 100% is done and 1min left what obviously isn't correct. I also get SD Card Error message when done, so don't panic, that's normal apparently.

Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

just for further reading on gcode commands then take a look here http://reprap.org/wiki/G-code#G:_List_all_G-codes
just remember not all codes work on all firmwares/printers so be careful if you experiment.

@kr15_uk i havent gotten the sd card error when done, i do how ever get  file errors from time to time where the printer wont print my file before i remake it.

Below is the instructable on downgrading firmware if you need to, so you can reset tags.

Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

You are the man greatone76! Much appreciated. Just got mine unboxed and started printing this last weekend. It still had stock 1.0.5 firmware or whatever they shipped with and wondered how to go about updating without taking the newest and missing out on using my 'unlock' code. does this advanced editor allow for more specific fill settings the regular software only allows me to select 50% or 90% with nothing in between. I am printing parts for the MPCNC and some of the recommended settings are fill of 75%. I was hoping I could figure it out using the xyz software vs trying to spend time learning slic3r and figuring out this whole 3w conversion stuff...
again thanks for your continued work on this project! I really appreciate it!

Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

Neilyboy you'll just have to play and report back. I have not had time to mess around in the advanced mode so I don't have a clue of the capabilities.

Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

Anyone who has other firmware versions upload them here, pm me or something. I'd like to get any firmware possible into the Instructable so people can experiment and use them as they want.

Also, anyone who had tags that wouldn't reset on 2.2.6 have you tried loading the old firmware and then moving up to the current and see if the tags work again?  Just curious if refreshing the firmware clears the memory that was blocking the tags. It would be nice to know you could have the option of using the most current firmware as long as you clear the firmware everytime you need to reset a tag. Just looking for options.

Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

I finally got around to resetting my card for the first time. Had one hiccup but changed the color and now all is well. Is the best practice to set it back to the image you have posted on instructables and modify the page number [09] by +1 every time I reset the card for best practice? My thinking here is I plan to use the same brand of filament from here on out (probably the same color - as it seems to be printing well). Am I going to run into any issues if I always use the same data on the card but modify page 9 by +1 each time? I am still running the out of the box firmware btw.

What brand of filament are yo using?

913

Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

I'm using only 1x NFC chip and it's always set to one colour (green?! can't remember, the one which had 210c)
I've been through 17x spools so far (18th half way through) using the hacked chip.
Always up up page 9 by 1x and yeah, no problems what so ever...

But I do recommend to get at least one extra NFC chip if you are swapping colours often and/or use internal spool, that's just convenient to swap spools without fiddling with NFC rewrite every time.
(For internal spools you can download on thingiverse that fiddly middle bit to hold NFC chip)

But personally I just grabbed drill and set up external spool, no fiddly rewinding on XYZ spools! wink

Running through my first print with hatch box green.
Seems to be working very well.

Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

Hi guys,

Hope you can help me here, and excuse my complete noobness on this subject.
Ok having had my davinci Jnr for a couple of months now, and absolutely loving it and getting some top prints off of it to, (see my Twitter @tozol), I post on there all the time my 3D stuff.

Anyway in a nutshell, I'm still on the default filaments and not touched the printers settings at all, but I'm really keen to try and get this printer hacked or nothing to enable me to use cheaper alternative filaments than the proprietary ones that XYZ force on us.

Now having had a quick skip through this thread, it gets way to technical to quickly, so simple question guys, do you have a dumbed down version on just what to do to finally get this printer hacked.?
I don't mind a bit of donkey work, so links or any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help guys.

Thanks for the link , and yup I do have questions.

I'm hopefully getting an Android device this week so there's a good start.

Ok onto questions,
In the video of this hack , I see numbers being input on the password sections, like Hex code type, what are these?, how did they arrive at the specific one, or I'm I missing something ?

Other filaments?, are you able to use other spools?, if so how, with the chip system?
Final one, do the 1kg spools work in the JNR?

Thanks again for this, really hoping I can finally do this.
J

There are two ways to retrieve the password. The first is to spend about $15 and buy a Logic Analyzer and retrieve your own. The second is to sped $10 for each tag and have someone do it for you. I prefer method one myself.

FYI,
Jr with firmware 2.2.4

reset tag with 300m before 2.2.4 update, just re flashed tag had spool error. found that it looks to be tracking page 14. updated that page no other changes and now same tag working with 300m of 300m

Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

OK. Hi all. I've been putting off asking this question cos I fear the answer will be too obvious but, here goes. Once I hack my chip, does that mean each time I buy a new (cheaper) role of PLA I'll have to wind the filament onto an empty XYZ reel which will hold the hacked chip? I've just finished my 2nd XYZ role of PLA. The first had 24 grams left on. The second had 66. Like everyone else I don't like being ripped off. Which is why I'm going down the "hacked" road.

Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

I just drilled a 1/4" hole through the side of my printer case and fed it through the NFC holder that was created by wowjaguar (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1416171).  So I just set a spool on a reel outside of the machine and feed it directly in. Actually works pretty well so far. It keeps just the right amount of tension on the filament.

Now that is funny. I did the same thing on my printer this past week end. I use a modified version of that NFC holder though. Mine has a tad longer arms on it so I do not have to remove it to change/remove TAG. I went one step further though. I bought some plastic tubing and ran it from the hole I drilled through the hole in the tag holder hoping the extra support would help. Works great.

I did cut 1cm of existing nylon tubing and squeeze it into that drilled hole to reduce friction. Works a treat.

Re: DaVinci Junior cartridge reset

I was somewhat worried about that but honestly it does not appear to cause any issues. I like that tube idea though.
