Topic: Where to buy stepper motor cables?

Purchased some motors from ebay that came with motor cables that were only about 5cm long. Since I'm building 2 printers I don't really want to crimp 32 wires... Anywhere local in the USA that sells these crimped cables for cheap? I found some on Amazon and eBay but they come from China and usually run around $5 a cable, ouch! E3d sells them for cheaper(http://e3d-online.com/Electrical/Stepper-Motors/Motor-Cable), but the shipping will probably cover the difference.

Maybe something you guys at PrintItInd could add to the inventory?

We sell everything you need to make your own but ran into the same issues when trying to source stepper motor extension cables.  But we will continue to look for a solution.

Re: Where to buy stepper motor cables?

Ended up just ordering a set of 10 off ebay. It was a little tough to find information about these cables until I found the name of the connector, which on my motors was: JST 2mm PH 6 pin. After finding that out I got a lot more results, info might help someone else.

Re: Where to buy stepper motor cables?

I actually make custom cables (stepper motor, endstops, thermistors, etc). My website will be up soon and you'll be able to order whatever configuration you'd like including different types of connectors and lengths, and even types of wire (shielded multicore, silicone, etc...)

If you do get desperate they sell JST plug and leads in model shops used for connecting servos and the like in model planes and cars.

Re: Where to buy stepper motor cables?

I bought multi-conductor stranded wire by the foot at HomeDepot (I think it was 17 cents or so/foot depending on number of conductors) and did a soldered "WesternUnion" or "Lineman" splice with heatshrink to cover it. It worked very well and I could make exact length while keeping the original connectors. I think it was called thermostat or alarm wire, Just look where they have the bulk reels that they sell by the foot. Stranded wire, solid will be more difficult to use and will eventually break.
