Topic: HEated bed? why cover it with tape?

I thought the purpose of the heated bed was to help the prints stay seated and not warp but people still put tape or glue on the bed? What am i missing?

Re: HEated bed? why cover it with tape?

Tape, glue or hairspray provides grip for the first layer of the print.
Without it, it's difficult to get a good first layer that's sticks to the bed well.
The first layer is critical, if it doesn't stick properly to the bed, you'll have problems with the rest of the print.

the heated bed is to prevent warping  not for adhesion.

Depending on the material of your heated bed and what filament you  are printing with you may not need glue or hair spray.

but the heated bed is to reduce warping.  it can also help with adhesion. most materials shrink/expand at different rates so after cooling a printed item often pops off without any force.

I use BuildTak with no glue. Sticks until it gets old.
