Topic: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

I was printing today and my feed tube came undone from the unit and the extruder no long will take in the filament. Without the tube directing the filament and providing resistance onto the extruder the filament now feeds out the open hole and just goes everywhere. Ive tried pushing the tube back in but the result is always the same... it just pops back out and I am unable to print anything.

FYI: I initially thought the extruder was not feeding, thus being clogged.. but I have throughly cleaned the nozzle using the supplied wire. I have run the wire straight through the nozzle and pulled it through the top of the extruder. I have unloaded and loaded the filament without error.... if I manually hold the tube down it seems to work.. but the moment I let go and the force becomes too much the tube pops out and the filament no longer extrudes.

I attached a pic just in case.

Any ideas?

Seems this metal bolt thing that the tube is supposed to attach to is the problem. It used to have some kind of internal toothed washer to hold the tubing in place but all the teeth appear to have broken off..

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

I have exactly the same problem in my Da Vinci Jr. since a week ago so I ordered this part:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Male … g/47553366

You just gotta check the diameter of the thread and the push connector hole. In the case of my Da vinci Jr. both diameters seem to be about 4mm. The new part I bought will arrive tomorrow so I will let you know if this solved my problem.

If you want to find parts with other diameters you can look for "pneumatic straight fitting" on amazon.com and you will see many options to buy. I hope this info helps.

Thanks for the info... Im going to see if they have anything like it at a local Bolts & Nuts store. I also contacted XYZPrinting support... the printer is new and is under warranty, so Im hoping they are going to send me the part also.

No problem. Just an update on my last post: the connector I bought from Walmart worked perfectly and seems much stronger than the one that came with my Da vinci Jr.

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

Thats good to know that there is a fix for the back end. Day 1 I had issues with the front end of the extruder tube. Now its always a hassle to swap out filament. Its doable but takes time.

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

Hey, I have the exact same problem and would order the part and do the replacement, but I can't figure out how to disassemble the plastic housing around the feeder.  Any advice on that, or a how to that would be helpful?  Thanks.

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

Alternately, I see videos of the da vinci 1.0, and it did not have a full tube.  Is there a way to rig the pro to work without it, you think?

Took me a while to figure it out as there are no tutorials online that I could find. Actually my wife was helping me disassemble it.

First we removed the top door panel.
Then we had to remove both left and right panels of the main housing.
From there I was able to remove the top crossbeam via a couple push clips.
This gave me access to the screws to remove the final top panel(this also has some push clips on both sides)
After that I was able to unscrew the busted Bowden tube fitting.

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

Guys
You need a "Metric" 4mm Push to Connect straight fitting from McMaster-Carr. Here is the link.

http://www.mcmaster.com/#push-to-connec … s/=11y8ekq

The DaVinci feed tube is 4mm od. Not sure what the thread pitch is but could also be metric.

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

This just happened to me on my Pro yesterday. I was able to remove the Quick Connect without disassembling the printer (a task I was not looking forward to) by using a flat nosed needle nose pliers.

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

Found the Quick Connects on Amazon, one for a little over $6 that arrived today so I'm back up and running, Ye-Ha, thank you Amazon for Prime Sunday delivery. And a 10 pack for a bit over $5 that arrives tomorrow, couldn't get Sunday delivery on the 10 pack. Because, if it happened once it will probably happen again...

For those that find themselves in need:

$6 one:

$5 10 pack

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

Found a pack of 10 for $7.99 from Amazon that don't come from China so was able to get them much faster.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6 … &psc=1

And thanks guys so much you guys saved my life. big_smile xyz printing was out of stock and no ETA on when they would be back in coming to this forum showed me what I could buy in its place and has me back up and printing.

Thank you!

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

Hi there,
I'm having the same problem (I have a Da Vinci Mini). I used the spare and that broke, so I bought some replacements on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MQ … &psc=1

These DID NOT fit.
From what I can tell, the screw is not deep enough so it can't reach the threads in the printer.

So after lots of searching I purchased these tonight and hopefully they work:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009I … &psc=1

I'll post an update when they get here.

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

I cancelled the order for the new feeder grips since the specs were wrong.

And, after looking for hours, and not finding anything online, and talking with Home Depot, I was about to give up. Then, after talking with the hardware guy at Ace, the solution to my problem was to use a 'tap' which is a bit for a drill that allows you to drill threads into a tube. So I 'tapped' my original feeder grip (see picture: threads.jpg) and then screwed in the new piece to the top (see picture solution.jpg, of blue-top brass  feeder grip screwed into the original steel feeder grip.

This appears to be working like a charm, and it ended up being minimal modification of the 3d printer.

Good luck everyone!

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

The reason you have trouble to install the hose Connector because you missing a M6 hex nut. Slide in the M6 hex nut as indicated in the image below and align the center of M6 hex nut to the round hole in the top where you insert hose connector and screw it up. You temporary solution depends on the strength of the plastic shell and may not last long.

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

I had the same problem, ordered the part
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Mal … iforum.com

, but the part won't quite fit.  It's soooo close, but not quite tall enough on the threading.  Solution, cut the black plastic and remove the black washer on the threads with my finger nails.  This shallows out the housing just enough to allow the threads on the replacement part to work.

Just to be clear.  Looking at the great pic yizhoe posted:  Look at the blue piece on top, follow down to the brass, then down to the silver. See the black ring under the silver? Cut that off and the replacement parts work.  I hope this helps someone out there.  This was a MAJOR pain to research and find.  da Vinci could do a much better job at a parts list and replacement options. Sheesh.

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

An alternative place to order a PC4-M5 fitting is captubes.com - https://bit.ly/2VtlvNj and Amazon also has several suppliers.

This would also be a great time to change your bowden tubing as well.  The two I use are:
Capricorn TL Translucent 4mm OD x 2mm ID x 1M Long - https://bit.ly/2NEDbkL
or
Tecboss Bowden Tubing, Premium PTFE Tube for 1.75mm Filament Teflon Tubes Low Friction - https://amzn.to/2SfhIS5

I would highly recommend using a collect clip on all the pneumatic fittings.

E3D original 1.75mm - https://bit.ly/2Vx1BBt or a Thingiverse search will result in several different styles to print yourself; e.g. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4363543

It might also be a good time to purchase some union tube fittings, 4mm OD x 4mm OD, Straight Pneumatic Connector (Pack of 10) - https://amzn.to/35DhVUK.  Chances are it will be the next to go; mine did within a week the first time.

Re: Da Vinci Pro Feeder Tube Detached

I can offer two other solutions if you have a replacement where the screw threads are too short (these seem easier to locate than the correct ones):

1) Use a paperclip to remove the broken pieces of the toothed washer then use super glue to glue the new fitting to the old fitting.  I suspect I will be able to break the bond in the future when the new fitting eventually breaks.

2) Use a paperclip to remove the broken pieces of the toothed washer then use a dremel drill to grind away the metal edge on the new fitting so that it seats lower and allows the threads to  hold.  If you hold the new fitting against the old fitting, you will be able to see where to grind.  The metal is soft and I was surprised how easy it was to reduce it.  A pair of calipers will help you identify the high spots.
