Topic: E3D's new extruder - Titan

Just a quick announcement for Titan:

http://e3d-online.com/blog/titan

I've had a pair mounted on a SD3 and a Printrbot Play for a couple months now, as an early beta tester. E3D has really done their homework on this one, and listened to the feedback from myself and others. I'm pleased with both the initial design and the tweaks they've made since.

And of course, a shameless plug for my company as a US distributor. We have them in stock and they'll be shipped today if ordered before 6pm EST. E3D's coupon code of "Extrude3D" gives 10% off Titan at the Filastruder store as well as their site, for a limited time.

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

So, what size motor do they use for the extruder drive?

4

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

Any NEMA17 is compatible, but with the gearing you could run a short stack NEMA17 instead of a normal NEMA17 and save 100 grams or so.

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

I really like the design of this extruder. I was waiting around at work all day for the Twitter announcement and they started that dang countdown about 10min before I left.

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

How much does the Z-height of the E3Dv6 change with the Titan?

7

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

I haven't seen detailed drawings but from what I can tell, Z-height would be very comparable to that of a V6 in an ordinary MK-5.
(Give or take 1mm)

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL
Thanks to all for your contributions

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

You would actually gain a few millimeters with Titan.

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

Really great timing on this news. As most of you know I recently built a Prusa I3 kit. I already have a ED3 to use but had not really decided how to mount it. I knew i needed a different extruder and was very close to ordering a printrbot aluminum extruder.
So when I saw the news of the Titan release  I got my hands on  one now I just need to  find make the time get the ED3 assembled and mount the lot.  And then maybe another set for the SD4 but one thing at a time.

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

I just ordered one of these http://wanhaousa.com/products/duplicato … eel-frame. It has a steel hot end and says it is carbon fiber/ABS ready. I'll order a hardened nozzle and see how the extruder does. Nice to have options.

There used to be a Titan mount for the i3 on Thingiverse, but it had disappeared. The SD4 would not need a printed mount as I am led to believe.
The Titan is the most secure extruder I've used by far, so I would recommend progressing with your upgrade smile

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

Seems like it should bolt directly to the motor in either case. But ge if it will not fit on the I 3 gives an excuse to put it on the SD4  LOL.
Heartlander : I was looking at one of those last weekend  seem like nice printers  nice screws for the z axis and nice cable management.  I good solid beginners machine.

Yep. The Titan uses 5 screws (4 for the motor, one for the faceplate), so the only "problem" is how to anchor the motor to the carriage. If SD4 users still using the stock carriage a E motor mount, this should be a drop-in.

I've bee following the Titan discussions daily, and found the Titan related files became very difficult to find on Thingiverse the last couple of days, so I hope these may help someone.

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

After a long day/week at work I finally decided to try to tackle the tintan install .
I removed the old extruder/hot end from the folger I3. looks like things should bolt on except need to make a 2mm spacer.
the pinion gear sticks out beyond the plastic gear.

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

Ok adaptor plate made . I used a piece of 1/16th in  0.063 in / 1.59 mm aluminum to make the adaptor  # 30 drill for the corner holes and a 1" hole saw for the large center hole.   Can be made with a drill press and bandsaw or even a hand drill and hacksaw if needed.
So pretty much bolts on to a Folger tech prusa I3 with a spacer plate.
Still need to assemble the ED3 and teak the firmware.
Sure I could have printed one in ngen with the SD4 but . I like working with metal as well as 3d printing.

Re: E3D's new extruder - Titan

Tin Falcon: I'm rigging mine to print CF which would tear up my Robox. Robox has needle valves in their nozzles (instead of retracting) so if you manage to screw ut up, you have to replace the entire dual nozzle print head, like $200 a shot.

If Wanhao adds bed leveling like Hictop has, they will have an especially sweet Prusa.

Nice work on the Titan adaptation. Sure you don't want to put that all on Thingiverse and be an Internet hero for a day or two? smile
