I'm not sure if I'm doing it right but when I tried measuring with the power connected and the Press turned off I couldn't turn the voltage up over 1.14V. After turning on the Press I had no problem getting up to 1.5V on the extruder pot.

It's not enough to have the Press plugged in, it has to be ON as well.

Re: Solidoodle Press Print Quality (and how to fix it)

I am guessing the extruder would need to be operating during this adjustment.
Please let me know if I have this correct.
set all 4 trim pots to all the way to the left (counter clockwise)
power up the unit
heat the extruder and extrude 100mm-set voltage while extruding
adjust the final three as each axis is being used-calibrate or print small item

am I close?

thanks
John

This is the reference voltage, not the sensed voltage, so no, your steppers don't need to be enabeld. You do need to turn the printer on however. (A few people were unclear on this, and the SD doc wasn't explicit.) At least I hope the supply voltage doesn't droop while printing. That would be all sorts of bad.

Re: Solidoodle Press Print Quality (and how to fix it)

I printed the Calibration Cube&Circle 20mm Version on Simplify3d at 0.2mm with parts of the raft  not yet removed.
What would a good print out look like?
Any tweakings I could do to get a better result?

Re: Solidoodle Press Print Quality (and how to fix it)

Hi new to the Forum but have a lot of experience with the Press, and 3D printers in general.
Received our Press about 2 months ago and went through all the same issues as most.
Cable management, fan backwards, loose pulleys and glass print plate. Solved all of these issues pretty easily. Seems like early release QC issues. The software could use a few more revision before its solid. Now printing on perf board, head temp at 240-250 bed at 100. and we are getting some pretty phenomenal prints. Its not a Dimension machine but its next a Replicator and printing better in ABS than the Replicator in PLA. Here is a shot of some of our prints. The image looks a bit staged but its for a blog post. The bust of Augusta is huge. I think this machine has some out of the gate issue but all of the issues are easily resolved and should be resolved as the production continues. The software cold use raft support and a few other bells and whistle to make it a bit more powerful.

Re: Solidoodle Press Print Quality (and how to fix it)

For some reason Solidoodle updated their trimpot adjustments to x & y 1.0v and z & E to 1.5v.
So i tried it and I get some wierd line in some places of the print.
Anyone have a clue what it can be?
Might it be the z trimpot being 1.5 instead of 1.0?

And there is also some strange feature making circles oval...
look at the bottom of this pic, it differs in about 1mm!!!
that's ALOT when you need good fitting parts...

Re: Solidoodle Press Print Quality (and how to fix it)

MrSnowy
I would turn z back to 1.0V and try it.
Mine is set to 1.0 on x, y, & Z and 1.5 On Extruder.
Seems to work well on std ABS but I did set the Extrusion multiple to .94
Transparent is not printing as well but it's Not unusable...
Might be the model too.
Got some info on here about Transparent material, seems it melts at lower temp, reducing head travel speed and/or lowering the temp should help there.

Re: Solidoodle Press Print Quality (and how to fix it)

Hi All,
Hope this forum is not dead.
I am a 3D printer enthusiast and recently bought a Solidoodle 2 printer from a warehouse sale for $80. I was quite happy to get one at that price however, it was too early to celebrate. I had multiple challenges one after the other, however, after a lot of troubleshooting, online research and putting my experience, time and money, I was able to get excellent prints from it.
Changes/modifications I did was as follows.
1. Changed the X and Y Carriages. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:104059
2. Changed all the pulleys with bearing
3. Upgraded to Bowden Extruder with E3D V6
4. Changed all the brass bushings.
5. Finally Upgraded the entire electronics to Lerdge board with TMC2130

So how much extra did I spent?
$200

Is it worth?
I would say, YES, because the prints are amazing and you won't get a 3D printer with closed box, with the 32-Bit board and touch screen in $280

PM me if you want to discuss more on this.

Cheers!
Lokesh

Re: Solidoodle Press Print Quality (and how to fix it)

That board and LCD look nice. Too bad is only available from China right now. Other wise I would get it for my CT'c but I would also have to see if supports Thermocouples instead of Thermistors.

Well checked out some sites and it does support Thermocouples as well. But sadly it is only a single extruder so it won't work me..

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
