Re: SD Press - Under the Kimono

Heh. So I was hour 3 in a 4.5hr print and I hear the printer stop in it's tracks. Basically acted like the print was finished. Confused and pissed I pulled the print off and attempted the home the machine. It only homed in one direction. So I am looking around in the machine and everything looks 'okay'. I try to home the machine again, same thing. Only homed in one direction. So I shut everything down and slowly started taking everything apart and I found this...

The header was still attached, but the solder points where not touching the pads. It was just floating there.

Argh. What the hell SD? What the hell.

Yeah, The game plan is to make a new carriage system (Right now I am thinking all sheet aluminum, but that just depends how everything goes). I have all the parts line up and ready. The first thing I am going to tackle is the Z-Mount. (Mine is drooping pretty bad) I got the final measurements of the 'Z-Block' yesterday. I have a bunch of stuff happening at the homestead this weekend, but I should be able to mill out the plate early next week.

I have enough parts to make 4 complete sets and 10 plates of the replacement Z-Mount. Depending how this goes, And if anyone is interested I'll give the 4 complete sets to beta testers and sell the remaining plates... or something like that. I'll revisit that when I get it mounted and working.

You can put me down for a plate/kit (hoping there's still something left?)

Re: SD Press - Under the Kimono

Wow MacGyver.....I have to give you a boatload of credit for persevering in your attempts to make the Press a functional printer. Unfortunate that it seems like every time one problem is fixed, another one pops up to take its place...

Re: SD Press - Under the Kimono

Yes, but somtimes its about how much money your willing to spend to gain "Triumph";) For me it was, roughly no more than $200. So my Press is now for parts only.

But good luck to everyone who's still trying
