Hi Team,

About to add a DIY dust shoe to mine. Will post up some files/pics when done.

Been using the 4th axis more lately, considering finally paying for Deskproto to use it more. Given up on aluminium, keen to try some engineering plastics for structural parts.

Dust Shoe - Looks pretty, fits well, but doesn't extract that much dust

I made the following using sheet acrylic. It stays at the same height no matter what the z-axis is doing, there is room for the spindle to travel up and down inside the show without fouling. Magnets hold the shoe to the underside bolts of the carriage. The idea was to make it mount independently of the cutting job: one position fits all.

The brush is the stuff that goes over truck wheels.

Unfortunately the vacuum can't maintain suction in such a large volume. It doesn't help that there are gaps between the tops of the bristles and the gap around the spindle.

Back to the drawing board. I think it will have to be something much smaller that clips onto the spindle and moves up and down with it. The bristles are very stiff so it can be in the shape of a tight ring around the spindle and not get caught. Might have to hot glue the gaps at the tops of the brush too to help seal it.

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

Don't use my printer that much anymore. I did just have a failure of my custom etched PCB heated bed. So time to machine a new one and if I can be bothered some sort of new mount to hold it.

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

I've been using this with good luck!

I would personally add more magnets to hold the brush on. Mine can fall off when I use really small endmills and have to get very close to the table.

Either way it is always nice to see you around and get a peek at whatever projects you are up to.

Thanks mate.

Recently got this from here.

Added PID controller. Not really used in anger yet but planning to try some PLA pellets with it at some stage.

Have a lazerblade laser cutter coming from Kickstarter in the very near future too.

I might start a thread in projects for each of these when I start playing with them.

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

Lawsy,

You mentioned giving up on aluminum.  Are you going to go back to it for making injection molds, or will you use something else?

135

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

I'd like to see if I can get away with avoiding it at this stage, but I feel like for moulds it may be a necessity.

A lot of people seem to inject with flexible silicone as a mould.

A nice work flow might be: 3D a prototype > acetone smooth > Cast two part silicone mould around it > injection mould.

Over time I guess I'll find out if this works.

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

That injection molder is intended for soft plastic bait, which they are heating to 160C.  Did you ask about using it with higher temp lower flow resins like ABS?  I like the fact that it is using compressed air and has a much larger mold and shot capacity than the others.

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

Both of those features were very attractive to me too.

I did ask. He said the lowest rated parts were the o-rings through the machine. He supplied me with the part numbers in case I could do better. He's a very helpful and professional guy.

One issue it I'm using the 120V designed heater with my 240V supply. I crunched the maths and figured the base heater was ok despite extra current drawn but the supplementary heating pad around the barrel had to go because it would have been dangerous. The thing heats up really quickly with the extra current.

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

So I've been spending more time with my router lately. Having not had the urge to modify it like with the 3D printer so far, I'm now really keen to do so.

Carving CNC have a new model out:
http://www.omiocnc.com/x6-2200l-4a/
It seems to do great things with aluminium:

Things I'd like to upgrade:

  • End stops to add homing

  • Dust shoe

  • Mister for cooling

  • Automatic tool changer or at least quick release tools

  • Quick release clamps/vacuum table

Stevos758, I see you've been playing with yours a bit. Any links you can post on upgrades? I'll have a read through your site as well.

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

Yea, I actually just got a screaming deal on another Tormach so I'm getting rid of this ole girl.

But I have been using it a little bit recently.

Here is what i have used for references

Homing switches. I used hall effect sensors. If I did it again I think i would go with mechanical switches. They work but I make sure i home a few times.

Mister, Well I don't do aluminum on this one so never used it but I have used a fog buster on my bigger machine with great results.

Tool changer... not gonna happen. Not enough space. Tool changing spindles are expensive. I installed Mach Blue screens. They have a nice script to make tool changes painless. http://big-tex.tk/

As far as quick fixtures. Vacuum table is your best bet. I made an aluminum one and had my buddy make one for me with lots of dowel pin and threaded holes.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

Hello and thanks for tips, I read every post in the threads about X6-1500GT.

Ended up purchasing one of these about September 2014 and has been pretty decent used it a lot for light aluminum routing. Basically 2D stuff.

The unit has performed flawlessly up until a couple days ago when the VFD would not turn on.
I kept mine setup as it came from the factory where I manually setup the RPM by using the dial on the built in control pad. I just preferred it this way for what I do.

I checked for 110V AC and there is voltage at the terminals going into the VFD.
The VFD is D100S2R2B supplied by Nowforever electronics.
Input is 1PH AC110V 50/60 Hz
Output is 20.0A

Since it appears I need a replacement I was wondering if there is a better option than this unit supplied standard with the X6 that any here could suggest?

Thanks for advice or tips!

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

Hi all...am a newbie as well!!!
My background is in all things design...(ie not mechanical!)

About a year ago i purchased the Shapeoko2 CNC Mill....This really is a kit machine....I SO SUCK at putting things together so as you can imagine i have struggled to get any decent results....just can't get it to play???...Not blaming the machine just my abilities or lack thereof???

Question...
I am considering purchasing the X6-1500GT from China (omiocnc.com) and was wondering that given my 'basic' mechanical skills would this machine be easy enough for me to put together....After reading many posts it seems that the vast majority of the machine is already setup?

Cheers!
BTW...I am located in Perth...Australia. It appears shipping will be approx $500. Does anyone know the import duties etc?

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

Awesome Aluminum cutting gear I have aluminum cutting but not this I want like this.......

*****Hey******

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

Only a few screws required for assembly, as per my original post.

Shipping sounds about right. They will under value it on the paperwork to avoid duties, etc.

Re: X6-1500GT CNC router

Hi,there cam somebody Help me i would like to know if the Mach3 USB Motion Card AKZ250 and can be connected with the Nowforever VFD 400HZ i have and can the AKZ250 USB card drive the 3x (57HD5401-14S) stepper motors that came with my machine or do I need to add 3 of these DM542A  stepping stepper motor drivers per motor to have the cnc machine fully functioning with MACH 3?
