Topic: 3D Printing used to reconstruct ancient relics
I was crestfallen when I watched the videos of Daesh destroying ancient artifacts, but shortly after heard of a few projects to reconstruct renderings of the missing and demolished items. Iraqi and Syrian curators are calling on everyone in the world with home pictures and slides in different angles to generate exact replicas. Also, efforts to preserve other artifacts in the same light are underway by scanning intact items.
While it does not seem these renderings and .stls have been released to the public yet, this seems hopeful on many fronts. Here's a blurb from an artist's effort.
