Topic: Any of you use Netfabb?

Hello. So I'm trying to do some thing where I take the mech models from a game I play and make them 3d printable. My issue is in the guide I'm following the guy uses Netfabb to put the obj files together (and them uses another program to do stuff, and then 3d prints them).

So my issue is with Netfabb. I import a part. It works fine. I import another part and it freaks out and my old one(s) disappears. I can check the eye thing to make it visable, nothing like that works. It claims everything is visible. I can even go into options and stuff and hit show all adn it wotn show all my parts at once ever. If I click around to show different views it might randomly change and at one view shows me a certain part, at another view It shows another. It just doesnt make any sense.

Any Ideas? I'm at the point where it legitimately feels like the program is bugged. I looked for tutorials and stuff but this is one of those things thats so basic I cant find anything on it. Thanks for any help.

User Pirvan is the guy that can help, if he can't figure it out no one can.

Ok, thanks, I'll message him.

If I have time later I'll try to make a little video to show the issue better.

Re: Any of you use Netfabb?

I'm not at home near my computer, but try this: instead of using the open or import command, use drag and drop to add your models.

Additionally, most models will load those coordinates, which means that they occupy the same space, so if one of your models is smaller than the other, it just may be that you can't see it because it's "inside" the other.  To separate them, click the model you want to move in the right window panel, the using your left, right, up, down keys move it to different area.

If you still can't  get it working, post the STL's here, and I'll check them out when I get back home on Sunday.

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...

Re: Any of you use Netfabb?

I tried the drag and drop and stuff but I'm still having the issue :s... I made 2 videos to show the issue. The first video is just a general shows the picture from the guide, shows me drag and drop and have them disappear, and shows my mech in game.

The second video shows another weird thing I noticed, where they are all there but only appear in 1 view, and if I move it they disappear. So its not like they are all off in different places.

If it helps, this is the guide I'm using. You need to scroll down a bit for the big post he made.

I saw no netfab guide at that link. looked like some high end extra hi-def graphics?CAD/digital photography app on a very HD computer that can handle such apps. most crash trying to do such renderings in color 3D view.

the screen shots on that guys link are not Netfab images.

PS found the guide a couple pages in. looks like he used Meshmixer for most. and as for OBJ versus STL. if you intend to 3D print better use STL or you will likely be missing things or have parts misaligned has been my experience. and many of those apps cant fix OBJ easy if at all. had some other 3D file types same way either b4 or after converting to STL to slice and print. thats main issue found when searching YOBI.com for all 3D file types. many just cant be used for 3D printing and some are for dif type 3D printers like SLA or CNC or laser cutter or programs that must be bought (costly).

Re: Any of you use Netfabb?

moving dif items/objects once loaded are like when doing it in Repetier Host for layout for slicing/printing. must select each item alone then move it where wanted then deselect and do next item. otherwise they merge as 1 object. often Netfab will even ask when loading an object with multiple parts if you want to leave them together or  separate parts on plate. like a different type of STL which is listed in Export menu. this is something I normaly do when slicing and save group after rescaled as a STL with new name so I can simply load a slice later or modify it again in the future if needed. as I am not that good with Netfab and other apps yet, so I use what works easiest for me. some features of programs like Netfab are disabled in free versions also.

Re: Any of you use Netfabb?

I do agree with the guy scaling up objects for repairs/mods to lower issues but after finished and re-scaling down be sure to save STL after and check it in Netfab again in case ir needs repaired again due to re-scaling. then slice, as about 50% get errors when scaled down alot just due to the same geometry math limits that make enlarging best for initial repairs with less distortion.

Re: Any of you use Netfabb?

Oops the guide I linked the guide is actually on the second page, like half way down. But it def says Nettfab basic at the top.

Pretty much to sum up what I'm doing though, is that after putting the pieces together with a Nettfab project, you then put the assembled part (lets say the torso, like in the guide), you then go into meshmixer and actually make it a half intelligent 3d printable object (instead of the weird hollow model it is to start with).

But so my problem is specifically my second video. I can put in the objects, but it wont show them all at once (unlike in the guide, where you can see his nice built mech torso of the put together pieces he added). And If I'm at a specific view it might show me all of them, but as I rotate it just freaks out and they disappear. Which I'm starting to doubt that that is normal.

Thanks for the help sofar

Re: Any of you use Netfabb?

Ahhhhh ok it all makes sense now. When I originally tried moving with the arrow keys nothing happened. And I thought he meant I would need to move them because they would be inside each other (like a big box over a little box), not because they would be mega far away. But this time I zoomed out a excessive amount so it was this little green square and my other part was mines away. I guess the first time I tried the arrow keys I did something wrong cuz I dont think the part was even moving. Me so smurt...

Thanks a ton for the help guys

Re: Any of you use Netfabb?

I have never used the stand alone version. In fact I only use the net based version and I have only used it for models I download from Thingiverse.

I use Tinkercad to create my stuff and that is all I ever use. It exports directly to STL which allows me to import it directly to Simplify3D and print. I have never had to use Netfabb on any model I have made in Tinkercad.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: Any of you use Netfabb?

I wont use cloud or online based apps of any kind. too much lack of control and privacy. plus I do lots of work offline thats why I hate Win 10 and wont go there. I have used every 3D file depository found but at least 80% have un-useable files for our 3D printing. and many need completely redesigned besides repairs b4 use, even on Thingiverse which is likely the best files site. also Scetchup can get you started once converted to STL after cleaning up hiden or multi part issues using plugin filters for Scetchup (I only use Scetchup 8 as its independent from web use. I also have current versions on dif laptop for resaving as version 8 if no option was available to download file in ver 8)

I wish more people felt this way. At least Netfabb has a desktop version.

Re: Any of you use Netfabb?

I use netfabb free and web application. IMO, what netfabb free won't fix, the web application will do, however you give up some of the control by uploading it and having them 'auto' fix it for you.
