Topic: Question about the Solidoodle company

So is this question going to fall or what is going on?
The Facebook page is a PR nightmare, tons of people who paid money and never got a printer, tons of errors, etc.

I had filed a customer support ticket a few weeks ago, got one or two messages and then silence. (Luckily I was able to fix the issue myself..even after I tried calling and leaving messages.)

I have had some issues with the Solidoodle press but overall, I was able to fix my problems after some time.
I am worried for the future of the company in terms of getting replacement parts and what not.

Anyone know anything?

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

I can tell you my experience: Bought a printer in April, paid printer plus shipment. Never got a printer. Asked for refund. They don't answer me in any channel I'm trying to reach them: Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Google groups, Linkedin, phone, mail. In each place I look I see customers complaining about the same: paid their money, dont get anything, and I see a similar pattern in all the cases: communication has stopped from their side a few weeks ago. Looks like they have a strategy that is answering in public Forums that they will continue the discussion in Private Messaging, but then they dont respond (check Facebook). I'm discussing with credit card chargeback, and submitting claims with different consumer protections entities (NY, FTC, fraud protection entities, etc). At least I want to assure other get aware and dont waist their money and time like a lot of us already did.

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

I think you have a valid concern, cluttering up the forum with a bunch of repeat posts won't help.
Chose one section "Solidoodle discussion" and post ONE new topic with your issue.
Please delete your other "repeat" posts from the other sections or I'll do it for you.

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

It happen exactly the same to me. They have answered every email I sent in a professional way in less than 72 hours. Suddenly three weeks ago the company stopped answering. I identified in other forums customers (a lot) with the same situation. So its not about you. Its happening to all of us. I'm calling them daily, but they dont pick up the phone. I feel we are screwed, but we have the chance of making other people aware. Maybe they used to be a good company (that's the reason I decided to buy their printer, and trusted on them paying in advance for the printer). Looks like something changed in the last few months. I feel they ran out of funds or something like that. So maybe less employees, no funds to continue operating. What is amazing is that they dont answer at all. I never saw in my life such a "I dont care" attitude in a company.

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

it all started last year with the 3 new models mainly the Press fiasco and them dealing with China on it. thats how most USA companies die the last 20 years I have seen. yes Sam had a great thing going b4 that. now this forum IS the only SD tech support it seems

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

This all sounds very unfortunate.
Like I said, my experiences have been decent with the press, lots of errors but all fixable after research and hardwork.
Hopefully the company does not sink..not looking too good tho.

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

Sounds like they are doing good as a company. They are making nothing but profit since they are taking all this money and have very little going out.

I was concerned at the time that they were trying to grow too fast and change too much product at once. At the time they had the sd 2,3,4 . they kept the 4 and tried to add 3 new products at once. The workbench is an entirely new unit and the apprentice is a two headed version of the sd 3 with the print volume of a sd2 or something along these lines.

That was about the time I purchased my SD4 . I got  used one. I did purchase a power supply from them very fast service.

The good news in this is that 3d printer parts are generic enough that most of the parts can be purchased in a number of places Or replacements can be 3d printed.  The build platform is probably the one of the few parts that is not off the shelf . May be a little harder with the press as the frame and other parts are injection molded.

I hope they can recover but it hard to do once you get a bad rep.

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

Honestly, it would not surprise me if solidoodle goes under in the not too distant future.  They made big promises on the press, and failed to follow thru with a true "3D printer for your living room".  Simply put, the quality they promised was not there.  Support also has never reliably lived up to reasonable expectations.

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

I did a little digging and found this in the public records;

http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/ … ry_doc.xml

From what I can understand  from this form is that on 2015-07-28 Solidoodle switched from an LLC to a DE C-Corp. My guess is that  some new investors got in the picture and didn't like how LLCs handle taxation of their shares, but it could be because C-Corps are more protected legally than LLCs. Which leads me to wonder if Solidoodle knew they were going under so they switched there incorporation type to better protect the company from the inevitable customer backlash... Either way Solidoodle's revenue range is 1,000,001 - 5,000,000 so you'd think they could spend $10hr to pay for some customer service..

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

This is my experience. I ordered and paid for my printer on 12/31/2014. I received it on 3/31/2015. There were  few updates or explanations as to the delays. I had to contact customer service several times to get any answers. Usually my best method was to open an online chat request through their website and wait for them to e-mail me later.

My printer was shipped without any directions, and I set everything up through information on these forums and their website. I was very lucky to have had previous 3d printing experience.

Once I got my printer, it was several months before my filament arrived.

However, my printer has worked well. I did have to do some tweaking and adjusting to get it work properly. The only real problem I have had was that the insulation under my bed fell off and they replaced it under warranty. My z-end stop broke, but I was able to find a sufficient model online and have someone else print it for me to get back up and running.

I know many people have had customer service issues, especially those seeking refunds for cancellations. It is my opinion that they are not dishonest (in that they are seeking to take your money for nothing in return), it is simply poor customer service all the way around. There seems to be very poor communication between customer service (and everyone) and the accounting departments.

In short, I like my printer, but the company and customer service leave a little to be desired.

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

I just emailed a complaint form to the NYC consumer affairs dept. Not sure if they can help me. I'm in Seattle.
their form is at https://www.dos.ny.gov/consumerprotecti … ntform.asp if anyone else wants to complaint.

Meantime, looks like a have a perfectly good workbench - was running great until the motherboard went out - or if anyone has a motherboard to sell, let me know.

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

Ironicaly, I am the one amongst who had a good customer experience, but an terrible experience with the printer (Solidoodle Press). I had sometimes 50+ email messages with them, but it was here (on this forum) where I learn to repair various things. On average, every 1-2 printed pieces I had a problem with the printer, sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller. Unfortunately Solidoodle failed to offer true "plug and play" experience, actually they were not even close to it.

PS: Even now my printer is broken. (see topic "madfalcon81's corner" if anyone can help me).

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

Mine in a nut shell:

Our experience has been a let down with the company, but not necessarily with the printer. We ordered during the preorder and received our Workbench in a few months. Most of our emails went un-replied during this time. Nothing was missing upon arrival, and they even managed to remember our education package(2 extra rolls of random colored ABS filament). The belts needed aligning and tensioning immediately and then doing a little calibration, but after that we started regular printing with the machine. I'm not saying it's 100% there yet, but we are getting great prints from ours. For example: http://www.thingiverse.com/make:163033

Solidoodle is obviously going through a state of change. Whether it is for better or worse cannot be determined yet. My original order went just fine. After that, however, any time I called or emailed SD for various inquiries, they would respond with "Um...have you ever tried Soliforum? There are very smart users on there."

All companies drop the ball from time to time. It is unacceptable to leave your customer hanging for 4+ months with no open discussion, but on the plus side, even if you got a printer that does not work 100%, the Soliforum users may help you turn a cheap 3D printer into a precise machine. Personally, I recommend to not entertain the idea that Solidoodle will give you service with a smile. Fork over the money, walk away, and turn to our community.

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

I can understand one company decides to provide less service. What I cant understand is that they get your money and then they never sent you the product for almost six months. And then you ask for a reimbursement and they dont answer your messages any more. I have ever seen such an irresponsible company in my life. To me that's technically fraud; dont see a difference between stealing your money and doing this. The funny thing is that every lie they said to me is on written. Mail by mail. And the funniest thing is that they continue selling their products and more consumers are paying and being promised about getting their machine in a few months.

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

You could confirm how bad it has become going around different places: Reddit, Facebook, etc. Always same pattern: you pay, they ask you to wait, they offer discount/filament to compensate delay, and after 5-6 months nothing. No Money, no printer. No answering to voicemail, mails, social media. I just got an answer last week offering one extra roll of filament. And then they discontinue the communication. That's not the way of treating a customer.

looks like done to go China with Press. and China will own it after contract filled like usual. likely already cloning on molds China owns but US companies pay for. thats why most go poof after.

Re: Question about the Solidoodle company

I'm someone coming back to 3d printing after 2 years and I have few Solidoodle 4s. I don't know how bad Solidoodle has become as a company, but I'm surprised that people said it was good before the latest 3 models. The quality of the parts was shit, same with documentation and customer support. The only good thing was the forum. Maybe the things I mentioned have become worse, but it sure as hell wasn't good by any definition. Maybe in the Solidoodle 2 days, I don't know as I wasn't using Solidoodle printers back then, but I was when SD3 and 4 came along.

I'm actually surprised how Soliforum hasn't changed it's name to not be associated with a shitty company anymore as it is a general 3d printer forum and the largest as far as I know.
