Topic: Glow Fliament

Looking to make some 1:10 Scale Traffic cones for a up coming RC Crawling Event and wanted to get some feed back on the Glow filaments. Looked at the Octave Green Glow ABS filament, but wanted to know if anyone has tried it. How long it stays or has some glow left in it? Is their any other brands you would recommend, looking for the green color.

The search button was not my friend on this one....

Thanks J

Re: Glow Fliament

I don't think any glow filament will glow bright enough for an RC driver to see them at a distance unless the arena has black lights. Blacklights make all glow material glow intensely.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

Re: Glow Fliament

I've had great results with Octave blue but agree with Carl on being able to see it.  I have items that are over 2 years old and still glow fine.

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL
Thanks to all for your contributions

Re: Glow Fliament

Thanks guys that's what I was thinking. The coarse is set up outside so there wouldn't be any black lights out there. Maybe I'll do the cones and put some reflective tape on them. Thanks again

Re: Glow Fliament

the Berkley Glow stick fishing rod use LEDs inside glow in the dark hollow rods. and the tea lights have a clear rubber 'flame' that can be removed then print thin cones and glue them on instead. then if need brighter replace the LEDs with UV LEDs for glow ABS to brighten

Re: Glow Fliament

We won't have any power out there so the idea of the tea light sounds interesting. Thanks never would of come up with that. Time to check out the Dollar Store!

Re: Glow Fliament

Hatchbox Green Glow PLA works well, but remember, you'll probably want to print at 100% infill to get as much of the glow as possible. I just printed a bunch of commemorative tokens for a bike ride going through our town.

FuseBox 1.5 CoreXY - e3dv6 - Graphic Smart Display
Solidoodle 2 - e3dv6 - Hobb Goblin - e3d Titan - lawsy carriages - Direct Drive Y Axis - T8 Z axis - OctoPi

Re: Glow Fliament

I have a roll of the Octave green glow. It glows rather well I was surprised when I started printing with it. Made a few slot car bodies out of it. Ive done some outside night events with black lights. We used a series of car batteries and a power inverter to run black lights. Worked pretty good.

Sd4 #9080 with a glass bed. E3d chimera duel extruder. Paste extruder , duet wifi.
Lawsy carriages. linear bearings. Y axis direct drive, Kinect scanner
SD4#8188 glass bed, lawsly carriages, E3d v6, octoprint http://www.ustream.tv/channel/hotrod96z28

Re: Glow Fliament

fairly impressed with the Inland brand Glow in the Dark sold by Microcenter - and at $15 a roll, it is a steal.  Excellent glow if given enough light to charge on.
Daylight color is kind of an off white, almost gray-ish.
Prints decently, but kind of looks, and feels, like stone.

SD4 #1 & #2 - Lawsy carriages, E3D v6, Rumba controller board, mirror bed plate, X motor fan, upgraded PSU & Mica bed heater
SD4 #3 - in the works ~ Folgertech FT-5, rev 1
Printit Industries Beta Tester - Horizon H1
