Topic: The model does not stay in place

Dear all,

I have a problem. More than 50% of the time, the 4 corners of the model curve and it after 1 hour, it will not stick to the bed anymore.

I have read and follow the concerned topics (http://wiki.solidoodle.com/getting-prints-to-stick-to-the-build-platform and http://wiki.solidoodle.com/bed-treatments/):
- Buffing Your Kapton Square with Sandpaper: DONE
- Cleaning Your Kapton Tape with Acetone: I do it everytime before printing.
I have also changed my kepton tape just in case... But still don't work.

Maybe is my temperature what are not good?
100°C for the bed
210°C for the extruder

Does someone had the same problem and can help me?

Thanks a lot in advance !

Look into the glass and AquaNet mod.
Also, if you are printing ABS be sure you have a full enclosure. aBS cools too quick and it will cause lifting

While having an enclosure helps with layer separation, it doesn't really do much for lifting or corner curling.

I don't think an enclosure is a necessity, I've been printing successfully for 2+ years without one (and so do the majority of other RepRap/Mendel/Prusa/Delta style users). Primarily the idea of the enclosure is to keep stray air currents from getting to your print, which can create uneven temperatures in certain areas, leading to cracks (layer separations).

AS for preventing lifting and curling, nothing beats glass and hairspray for ABS, or if you're using PLA, blue painter's tape.

To print or, 3D print, that is the question...

Re: The model does not stay in place

This is a very common problem.  Unfortunately, the solution is varied.  There are many environmental factors which make one persons solution not so good for another.  For example, whether you need an enclosure or not no doubt has a lot to do with the conditions in your work area.  I personally have had phenomenal success with hairspray on glass (my SD4 does have an enclosure).  I print the first layer at 105C and the rest at 90C then heat it back up once the print is done and I am ready to remove it.  If I let it cool off too much, I end up breaking the glass before the part releases (have broken many glass plates this way).  However, others will tell you to let it cool down and it will "pop" off.  If I do this, the part will sometimes pop off, but will take chunks of glass with it.  So try the hairspray and take notes to figure out what works for you.  Glue sticks also work very well for me (but not as good as hairspray) so you can try that if the hairspray path isn't panning out.  I use the generic hairspray from walmart:

Re: The model does not stay in place

I tried Kapton tape and I was very very dissapointed. The solution wich worked for me (thanks pirvan for that) was hair spray. Aply on all the glass, heat bed, then cool, then aply again. Do this 2-3 times until the bed becomes "dirty". DONT CLEAN UP THE BED BETWEEN PRINTS!!!

Also, set an z-offset in that manner that first layer pushes against the bed a little bit more.

Re: The model does not stay in place

Thank to all of you for your responses.

I have tried hairspray and it works much better ! From now, I also print with my window closed. The result is still not perfect but my prints stay in place.

I will make a new z-offset and I hope it will fix the problem definitively.

Thanks again for all advices.
